Hike and Fly Clinic

What?
The hike and fly course is aimed at helping pilots pursuing mountain flying to develop a toolset for trip planning, site assessment, weather forecasting, and risk evaluation. Learning these fundamentals are essential to hike and fly, crosscountry flying in mountainous terrain, volbiv, and multi sport linkups.
Who?
The clinic is designed for intermediate pilots who have flown numerous sites and are ready to start branching out into exploring new launches in mountainous terrain.

Where?
There are numerous sites across the Cascades that the course may take place at, we will make a team decision based on group experience and weather conditions to give us the best chance of flying.
Format
Due to the finicky nature of paragliding and weather there is no guarantee of flying but we will complete a site assessment which may include going for a nice long walk in the mountains. The maximum group size will be 4 clients to ensure quality instruction and attention to safety.

Online Zoom Meeting:
Prior to the scheduled weekend we will do an evening zoom meeting to introduce course material, discuss necessary equipment, initial weather forecast, and introduce site assessment for the potential sites that we may go to for the course.
Day 1:
The first day will consist of ground school further discussing equipment, forecasting, site assessment, and risk evaluation. In the evening we will do a landing assessment of the planned flight for the following day. We will most likely camp at or near the trailhead to allow for an early start.
Day 2:
Early start hiking to give us plenty of time for full site assessment and be at suitable launch at a reasonable time in the morning. In a perfect world we would then fly down, but due to the nature of paragliding, be prepared to hike down if necessary (believe it or not this has a lot of value in its own right).

I gained so much confidence from the P2+ clinic this past week with Matt Senior and Austin Cox. It really is a missing step between P2 and "the next level". I feel so much more confident in the air now. Matty and Austin were such a calming and informative presence on radio while flying. I also asked about 45 questions per day and they never once rolled their eyes at me. So much positivity and encouragement! If you're considering doing a clinic in the future, especially with these two, don't even think twice just do it- you won't regret it!

Brian Olsen
Highly recommend! It was like getting not only an intro to thermal and xc flying, but also the keys to Tiger!

Chandler Haberlack
I want to thank Matty and Austin for hosting such a kick a** clinic. I highly recommend anyone who wants to try and progress in this sport to take the clinic next year. You'll be blown away with how much you learn and the confidence you'll get in your flying ability.
